Summary:

The Senior Product Engineer (SPE) is accountable to the Product Engineering Manager for leading product failure investigations, for conducting studies and testing necessary for the qualification of new materials and processes and for leading the maintenance of the Technical Data Package (TDP) for active production programs. In addition, the Product Engineer is responsible for the support of the manufacture of items when directed. The SPE assures the resolution of product problems through the effective use of engineering methods to perform design, analysis, and test activities. The SPE is accountable for the planning, direction, and control of project workflow and for project safety both internal and external to the department.

Major Position Responsibilities

    Lead product failure investigations, determine cause and corrective action and write final report.
  • Prepare qualification test plans for new and replacement components/materials, execute the qualification plan and write final qualification test report. Write design change documentation as required.
  • Input results from product failure investigations and qualification efforts into an electronic database.
  • Preparation of detailed designs, including dimensional, materials and manufacturing aspects.
  • Performance of appropriate analyses on designs to determine applicability and fitness for specified use.
  • Procurement of hardware for tests and delivery.
  • Qualification of designs through the performance of engineering tests; materials, structural, ballistic, and environmental.
  • Preparation of specifications and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) on systems, methods and products.
  • Preparation and presentation of information to be transmitted to customers and upper management pertinent to and as required by the project.
  • Engineering support to Product Manufacturing, including new product R & D to production transition.

Basic Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Aeronautical, or Engineering Mechanics or closely related field
  • Minimum five (5) year's applicable experience in the engineering design and composition of most existing products.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Aeronautical, or Engineering Mechanics or closely related field
  • MBA highly desired
  • Government Contracting experience in Program, Finance and\or Lead Pricing roles
  • Accounting/cost estimating work experience related to program finance/accounting and/or pricing of government contracts
  • Proficient in ProPricer
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel to include working with multiple workbooks, databases, statistics, and formulas
  • Knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS)
  • Knowledge of financial management principles, program planning, Earned Value (EV) reporting for government contracts, budgeting and practices

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience background consistent with product mix.
  • Working knowledge of engineering skills necessary for product development.
  • Ability to assess potential courses of action and apply good judgment in selection of proper course of action.
  • Ability to anticipate problem areas, assess potential courses of action, and effectively implement solutions.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments at the same time, work well under pressure and meet agreed upon schedule commitments.
