Description

This position is responsible for providing direct patient care to patients of the Center in
both the outpatient and inpatient settings. Duties will include a combination of patient
care, research and teaching activities

Examples of Duties

I. Teaching 25%
1. Actively precept as teaching physician in the resident outpatient clinics to include
not only patient care aspects and procedural skills but also time management
skills, doctor-patient relationship, professionalism, ethical and legal
considerations, billing and coding.
2. Serve as mentor to family practice residents, including meeting with them on a
regular basis to review their rotation evaluations, chart notes, to counsel and
advise them on any problems or issues, and appropriately document findings or
results in their professional development folders.
3. Conduct and supervise inpatient-teaching rounds.
4. Develop and facilitate core curriculum conferences for the residency program.
5. Assist in the development of residency program curriculum.
6. Assist in the enhancement of the residency program through the utilization of
educational experiences unique to the Carbondale community.
II. Service 70%
1. Provide direct patient care to own panel of patients at the Center.
2. Conduct procedure clinics as needed per patient demand.
3. Participate in family medicine hospital service and call.
4. Serve on the Center-wide Committees, as assigned.
5. Serve on school and department committees, as assigned.
6. Participate in community outreach projects.
7. Attend faculty meetings and resident conferences.
8. Participate in Center Peer Review and Quality Improvement activities.
9. Provide emergency services to patients as needed including those who are
identified as having no primary care physician.
III. Administration 0%
IV. Research 5%

1. Conduct research in areas of particular interest and publish in referred journals.
2. Attendance/presentation at national professional meetings.
3. Per RRC requirements, must complete a minimum of 2 scholarly activities every 5
years.

Qualifications


1. Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
2. Must possess an MD or DO degree.
3. Must have graduated from an accredited residency training program at time of hire
4. Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine at time of hire
5. Licensed to practice Medicine in the state of Illinois at time of hire
6. Must be willing to practice inpatient family medicine.
